One can hope that on the long term, historians can bring a more objective picture (and this in itself is arguable), but if just look at all the colonial revolutions that shook the world in the last century, the pattern is always the same : from rebels/terrorists/whatever to resistants/patriots. And we're going to bomb the xenos cities and drive them from our shores. The idea of being the terrorists and the good guys, no ambiguity, has the potential to be a great combination, and far greater than any on-the-nose wannabe-progressive lecture on the subject of who is really the evil ones and whatnot. But so is the idea of the benevolent underdog that goes to war and somehow manages to come out both triumphant and clean. The whole "who are the real bad guys?" is horseshit. In fact, that is at the core of a terrorist/popular rebellion that the regime becomes increasingly paranoid, and starts alienating - no pun intended - the populace themselves. The Advent will step up restrictions restrictions of healthcare, restrictions of movement. The Advent could carry out search and seizures, or seize the children of suspected dissidents, whether they really are or not. Their first shield is your unwillingness to hurt your fellow man, even by proxy.Īnd if you don't deny them that shield, you might as well stop fighting, because at what point is it too much? Is it when you deny them the free healthcare that the Advent surely does offer, between the abductions and the searches? Is it when you deny them security for their children that the cities no doubt provides, even by arguably draconian measures?īecause there is no doubt that attacking the Advent will hurt this people, immediately, at the very least in the short term. And they will use the cohesive, secure society against you. Strike at the supports of society, pull the linchpins, cut the cords. Strike repeatedly, incessantly, constantly. The way to victory is to strike covertly, strike fast, and strike hard. Fighting fair, you might as well load the gun and check out early. The enemy is a technologically and numerically superior foe that cares little to none about the soldiers under it's command, who has had 20 years to establish a foundation of moral superiority on which to stand, and offers ease of living, the only price being your eyes and ears. You must martyr yourself as to inspire others to do the same, because you will only ever win this through sacrifice, and death is always a possibility, and people need to take that risk to rebel. You need to convince people that they need to sacrifice to win. You need to convince people that there's a way to win. You need to show that the regime is weak and vulnerable. You need to take out that military checkpoint. That warehouse by the docks, full of their materiel? Potentially toxic if it's not disposed of properly. They wouldn't mind that school being right next to a military security station. They wouldn't have any qualms about building a hospital next to the propaganda centre. And it is entirely warranted to carry out terrorist attacks that will end with civilian blood on our hands to defeat them, if it's necessary.Īdvent doesn't care about humans. It is our planet, and they invaded us, they're experimenting on and eating us. The point being that good people do bad things because they feel they have to. "Who are the real bad guys?" is horseshit, and it tends to get forced as hell. I want us to be the unquestioanble good guys from our own perspective, and be forced to do some really horrible things whether we really want to or not. I'm sick of that too - but that's just it. Can I quote myself from another thread, on that topic? Is it OK if I quote myself? I'm going to quote myself.īasically, someone said that they thought that the whole "Who is REALLY the heroes?" was horseshit and they were tired of it.
